I was born into complete poverty and with an alcoholic father. I had 5 siblings. we didn't have shoes to wear. My family was completely dysfunctional, as a result I suffered,
physical, mental, emotional abuse and neglect. I suffered. I quit school in the 7th grade and make some horrible mistakes as a teenager. But today my life is sound, I made it through it. Got my GED, went to college four years, been married to the same man for years we have a daughter. I have been the exact opposite of my mother in raising her. I have taught her about God. She is an A student, well adjusted, has won over 50 trophies in twirling, pageants, and Karate in which she holds 2 belts, one being a Black Belt. My goal was to give my child everything I didn't have from love to security and opportunity. My life was a learning experience, not a pleasant one, but one that has made me strive to have a better life and to give my child a better life to.
And I praise God for it!

I am white, grew up in several black ghettos in Newark N.J. and went into the military, got my GED, landed a job using construction skills I learned in the military. Went to school with a G.I. loan. Bought a house, using a Vet loan. and got a job using what I learned from the schools I attended. Made very good money for several years and am now a clerk working in a store for minimum wage. I have more than I ever could imagine when I was a kid from the ghetto, but I'll always remember what it was to have and have not. I love this country...

A lot of Jews have rags to riches stories along with others.
Mine isn't particularly economic but spiritual -- of low prospect and ending up making something of myself.
