I think whomever thought of doing away with lay-a-way really needs a reality check. Not everyone has the money to do it all at once.

They said business was down in the layaway dept. I think layaway was a good thing, esp if you have small children and liked to do Christmas shopping early, but didn't want the kids to find the stuff. K-mart is now the only ones to offer it I guess...well, after Christmas anyway.

Don't count on Wal-Mart going out of business very soon.
These things are Business decisions that benefit the
Company. They are not made to get back at employes.
If Target starts Layaways it won't affect Wal-Mart as
they dont want that kind of business any more.
It may be wise on your part to look for a new job in
layaway at some other Company before the Holidays
and before you get laid off. Just a thought.

Is Walmart really doing away with layaway??? That will really suck...especially if target does get it because I only shop at walmart because it's cheaper and has layaway, but Target does have better stuff.

I would be devastated if they did away with layaways. That is the only way I can afford school shopping and Christmas shopping for my kids. Not to mention, things for myself. It's good knowing that if you don't have enough money for something, that you can always get it later because it will be on hold.Besides k-mart,not a lot of stores do that.

I do agree with the poster above - from the store's perspective. However, they will lose customers who use layaway. It's a way for people to buy what they can't yet afford without using credit cards. Now people will simply do without or max out a card and pay high interest paying it off in payments.

I think it is great. They can't get it right anyway. I tried using layaway and they lost my items within a week, go figure. Great service, NOT. I hate standing in line behind people checking out and paying on multiple layaways anyway.
If someone wants something bad enough, they will save and buy it.

are you sure target is going to do layaways? awesome i hope so.
i must spend anywhere from $1,000 to $2000 ( maybe more ) on my sons clothes, shoes , toys, back to school x-mas etc. and if walmart decides to get rid of it i will spend my money at kmart who does layaways and when target gets it i will do them there and i will not need walmart anymore!
