this is the common problem in india. and mostly its due to spyware , viruses and other worms which tinfects the PC. And in addition the anti_virus software which run in the backend makes the internet more slow.
make a daily routine scanning and run spyware software after the net usage. delete all the cookies and temprorary internet files and clear the history. defragment ur Pc every 2 weeks.
if u have 128 mb ram switch onto 256 mb ddram.

there are the tips , and still doest works for u then ur ISP might be having some problems. else go for more KPBS.

cheers

Is it cable or dsl? If its dsl, your phone lines might not be able to carry the broad band that well, (Im talking about the house you live in). If there are any other computers in the house, one of the other computers could be using up all the bandwidth by downloading stuff. The other thing Id try is to download spyware and virus scanners and removers and see if that doesnt speed up your connection a little. If you have cable, totally unplug your cable modem and plug it back in since it will reset itself. Other than that I would call your provider for more assistance.

There are any number of factors that could be impeding the bandwidth of your particular connection such as distance from the Central Office (CO = Switching Station) if you have DSL or the number of people on your block who are on the same Cable trunk. Other items/processes running on your PC can also cause connection speeds to drop as well as time of day. Your question is vague at best but look into what type of connection you have and call your ISPs technical support if you feel that you are being ramped down on bandwidth. You might also look at your system to see if there is a process (spyware, malware, etc) that might be interfering as well. One other thing to try is installing a piece of software such as Google's Web Accelerator to see if it will help improve your speed issues.

What kind of broadband. Cable or DSL? Also, if you have file sharing software, get rid of it. That stuff is full of spyware which will slow your downloads a lot.
