hmm, good question
well, actually, i fthe tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it then technically NO, it does NOT make a sound. Vibration yes, sound no because a sound is a vibration that is interpreted as a sound by the ear. No ear, no sound.

As for why you should care about that, well. im not the one to say why you should care or not care about anything. This example is usually used by lecturers of quantum physics when they speak of observers, and how the event is in fact defined and can be changed by observation.

This field of study is actually very fascinating, it touches on the nature of reality but again what you care about is completely subjective.

I have no idea who you are so i actually cannot give you even one reason why you should care. On the other hand, there may be many reasons why you should care. Only you should know that.

Each time a tree falls in the forest, it produces density waves in the air and in the ground. Density waves aren't sound in themselves.

When density waves resonate with ears' nervous cells, the brain of the animal/human translates those signals into sound.

Deaf people & animals couldn't perceive any sound.

As long as there are ears on earth, there potentially is a sound each time a tree falls.

If no ear on Earth at all, there cannot potentially be sound each time a tree falls. Only density waves in the environment, that's all.

sound = brain message thru ear-resonators.

Just because an animal can't tell you a tree fell, it will still make noises as it does. Why you ask should you worry? What if it's the only one witthin 500 miles of where you live that contains an Africanized Killer Bee Nest. O O O P s.

u mean to say that the tree is just like a kid ? it will make noise while falling down if there is somebody nearby , otherwise it will fall without making noise ? my brother is like that, if somebody sees him falling down , he will howl like mad if there is nobody he just gets up & runs away. i never knew that trees also do that. by the way if a tree falls on the road & if nobody is hurt do we care ? we just ask the concerned authoriies to clear the tree. that is all.as long as it does not hurt us or bother us usually we don't care for anything. man has become selfish.

The falling tree does make a sound but no one is apparently there to hear it.

Don't worry about caring. It's just some age old riddle.

If there is no one there did the tree fall, or is it like a Schrodinger's cat, existing in an indeterminate state until an observation is made.

As long as the machinery thats used to cut it down doesn't drown it out. You SHOULD care, because there are way too many trees falling.

Yeah, to things that can hear, there is a sound, which is just vibration. NO, I don't think you should care.
