I live in the upper mid-west.
During the spring, summer months, & fall, I have transplanted bearded irises.
(Plus, other types of irises.)
I have never had any problem doing this…
I have found them to be very hardy plants (similar to lilies) that will propagate in just about any soil that is in a sun or semi-shade location. Depending on the time of season & size of plants transplanted, mine usually bloom that season or the following.

I live near Atlanta, and I have transplanted bearded iris in all seasons. They're very forgiving.

Fall or spring they do not care...
NOTE: it may take three years for them to bloom after they are transplanted; but after that, watch out!
