I just moved to Hampton Roads area recently. There are three underwater tunnels here. I am wondering why they can not build a higher bridge.

Ships are being built larger and larger, so in order to prevent the bridge from becoming obsolete, a tunnel(s) is more practical. Also the amount of land required for the road approach to a bridge is much greater than that of a tunnel.

I prefer bridges also when I drive.... I like the view of the Tampa skyline.

HEY! I've been there. Driven the tunnels too. It's neat. And it is because there is a huge naval base in the area.
