You may never get the correct ans simply bcoz you can't validate.
the veracity of any such survey depends on the nature of society also. People in more conservative societies (Muslims, orthodox Christians etc.)may not be forthcoming, especially the feminine gender.
The psychology also plays its part. Males tend to boast in almost every society. There can be no denial of the fact that the trend is on the rise. So you get the picture.
