I am 20 years old college student study and live in New York City. I have done some acting in high school. I can sing and dance, both which I am still learning. I love to listen to Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Dean Martin. I also love Broadway and MGM musicals. My style of singing is jazz, rock & roll, and crooning.

My major in college is business administration (particularly in the concentration of international trade, marketing, and finance). I can sing and I can sing good, but I don't have any background in music, whether playing music or reading notes. Now I want to start off as a singer/dancer or actor on Broadway, then may be later on to the movie industry. What college courses should I study? Where should I start, would you say Broadway or some small theater? Who should I contact or look for to have myself and my talent to be discover? How should I market myself?

Fill up all the electives you can with music, dance and acting. Try to get an agent, and apply to everything you find out about. Network with other people you meet at open auditions.

Good luck with Broadway, you will probably have better luck at an audition for off-Broadway. Develop a thick skin, you are going to need it.

You will need to try to get an agent. If you are in New York, you know it's very competitive. Network with other auditioners, and get as many auditions as you can. Other auditioners may try to sabotage you, so work the area as best you can, and double check any auditions some other potential actor suggests.

If you have never performed, take lots of acting classes, take them for the next 3 years so you can become well-rounded as an actor. Also, audition for community theater where you live.

Starting on Broadway as a singer/dancer is a long shot. It's best if you major in theater get your BFA then an MFA. You will be better received with the degrees and more likely to find an agent to represent you. One must be a very strong singer/dancer to be on Broadway. Many of the actors performed since they were kids. Coming into musical theater late in life will be hard, but, not impossible. Go for it.

You live in NYC and don't know the answer to your own question. Just go hang out in the theater district, try to get a job as a stage hand and work your way into it. Forget about college courses for acting/dance, etc. Get your business degree. Then pursue show business.

You're not going to get any gigs f***ing around on the internet.

Get out there and find some stage time in venues that will take you.

Study your heroes carefully; dissect their work. Find out what about them compels you.

Take anything you can stand.

Break a leg, kid.
