Hey, I am about to try out for a hard-rock band and they've given me a cd of their music and it sounds awesome and I need to write some lyrics. Anyone have any tips on doing this, or getting into the right state of mind for it? (don't suggest drugs, I want to avoid those)

Let the greats take you to school. Listen to your favorite c.d.'s that have a similar music style, and see how they approached the lyrics. I'm not suggesting plagerism, just get a sense of what it takes to write succesful lyrics for a great song. Always go straight to the top for answers. See what the pros in your field have to say in the form of lyrics. Their opinion (which is a matter of record) is really the only one that matters.

i think u need to be relaxed & focused and the best way to write a rock song for a heavy metal band is to remove your frustartions and desperations through a pen on a paper.

this helped me

Whatever relaxes you & your mind can focus. It should come from your heart. Hard-rock these days mean different things, so take into meaning your audience. Good luck to you.

Exercise. Start doing something where you can just sort of zone out safely and just let you mind wander. Good idea to stay drug free!!!!

Use personal experiences and try to reword them. This is how I have written several songs and they turned out pretty good.
