NONE....
I have no intolerance for lactose... I just absolutely cannot stand the taste or smell of milk. I can't drink it when I am not pregnant and with the heightened sense of smell during pregnancy even somone around me drinking it has sent me running for the restroom. My Dr reccomended calcium tablets. They are huge but he also told me I could try something like the viactiv chews if I didnt think I could handle the pills. He told me to eat and drink things with high calcium. He said that a calcium fortified juice with breakfast would help keep my levels on track too. Have yogurt or cheese and crackers for a snack. Milk is no the only source of clacium and there is no point in making yourself feel sick. The morning sickness, heartburn and other symptoms of pregnancy will doo a swell job of that on their own!

My OB told me he wishes we would all stop drinking milk.
We are the only mammal that drinks milk past weaning and the only mammal that drinks the milk of another mammal. It is not necessary.
There are many other sources of calcium. Milk fat and milk sugars are not good for human bodies. Some people are lactose intolerant, some people are allergic (seems the same to me) and some people's bodies can just pass it on through, but NO ONE gets any benefit from the fats and sugars. Hard cheese is ok, all milk fats and sugars are removed, but you don't need milk. Take a prenatal pill and a couple Tums a day and your calcium levels will be fine.

You should drink at least 2, 8 ounce glasses of milk a day but since you are lactose intolerant you should try some of the new soy milks they have out . But you can also get the needed calcium from your prenatal vitamines. Also ask your OB DR about the differant things you can do.

Your milk is not dependant on you drinking milk. You are not a keg to be tapped. Your body produces milk naturally. It actually contains no lactose.

its not as much about milk as it is calcium. when i was pregnant i had foot cramps all the time, even in my sleep, and my doc said it was cause i needed more calcium. even though i was going through a gallon every two days..lol..it was one of the only things i craved. you'll get more calcium from those new chocolate calcium chews than anything else.

i drank chocolate (or with ovalitne for extra nutrients), since i don't like regular, or put it in cereal. i guess any amount is better than none, but if you drink too much, you could get backed-up.

No, you do not have to. You can take prenatal vitamins and extra calcium vitamins. But before you do, you need to talk to your Doctor or Dietision....
