They are controlled by the people who have the most money. Nothing changed since Nero's day, then, right?

This may not answer your question but it may shed light on it.

I took a poli sci class at San Jose State, it was on local politics. The teacher kept talking about politics in the way it is supposed to be, ya know honest, fair, unbiased, etc. Well, I kept throwing a monkey wrench in his theories by talking about politics as I saw them, corrupt, biased, cheating, bending to lobbyist and politicians only caring about the the people when it came time for re-election. After a few class meetings the teacher actually asked me not return. I asked him if he was dropping me, but since I had really done nothing wrong but disagree with him he had no real justification to. So, he offered me a "C grade" if I would not return. I refused and said I would settle for nothing but an "A grade". Of course he offered a "B" and I stood my ground and demanded an "A". He bent to my will, anything to stop the disruption so that he could teach his Utopian idea of the body politic. As he was walking away I told him that this is exactly what is wrong with politics today, corruption and dishonesty.

I think that you are right. Each party has a few "agenda items" that differ from each other. But, their behind the scenes conduct is highly questionable and often corrupt At this point, there are few differences among them.
