Take them to your nearest Best Buy store. They can get rid of them, and get them into the hands of some organizations (like for the elderly and abused women) that can use them. You do know that you can still use the cell phones to dial 911 even if the phones have had their service shut off??

Please donate them to be recycled or placed back in service. Keep the sim cards and donate the rest. This website: http://www.americancellphonedrive.org/ will tell you of the nearest drop off location or they will send you a postage paid package for 3 phones or more.

EXCERPT FROM WEBSITE:
It is hard to imagine that cell phones and lowland gorillas have any sort of connection, yet there is a profound one. While cell phones contain numerous chemicals, they also contain a mineral called Columbite-tantalite, also known as coltan. Coltan is mined in the Congolese forests, home of the endangered lowland gorilla, and this industry dramatically threatens their habitat. The mining, combined with poaching over many years, is severely affecting their already fragile population.

Cell phone recycling may help lessen the demand for coltan in the Congo. It will also reduce the copious amounts of chemicals that are found in cell phones from being dumped in landfill sites. With the tremendous amount of cell phones out there – over 150 million in the United States alone – recycling can make a huge impact. The phones are spruced up and then re-sold mainly to developing countries.

Hope this helps!!!

If I myself were in your situation if unable to return it to the owner within three weeks I would either 1 turn them into the lost and found of the local mobile dealer for that phone service carrier, or 2 turn it into the local police station lost and found department. I hope these suggestions were helpful to you. and good luck with the de-cluttering of your work space behind the wheel.

You could always donate them to local battered women's shelter. I work at a cell phone store and that's what we do. They use them for emergency 911 calls.

if you cannot return them, which would be the first option. you could donate them to a charitable org. we have one where they are passed out to the elderly and only the 911 is put in. that way they can call for help if needed i would try that you could save a life
