I am taking Biaxin (antibiotic) for a strep throat and it's making me feel worse than the strep throat did. :( I have the worst stomach ache and head ache and whatnot. A horrible taste in my mouth as well. :( Is this normal?

well... it doesn't sound like you have an allergy.
I looked it up online, and those are listed as possible side effects of the medication.
I would call up the pharmacy that you got it from and ask the pharmacist if there is anything you could take to get rid of those symptoms... you should check with the pharmacist before you try anything yourself, because there might be a drug interaction.

Biaxin is a good medicine as far as being effective, though Penicillin related meds were originally the best treatment, with less side-effects unless you're allergic. Erythromycin related to Biaxin is harder on the stomach, but taking it with food should help. It is an unpleasant medication to take but worthwhile. You might save some symptoms by taking yogurt often to put a good bacteria back into your body, as any antibiotic kills good and bad bacteria in the body, and allows yeast and fungi to act up. So it's likely normal, but you can make it a bit easier for yourself. Drinking lots of fluids is good too to get it passed out of the body faster. Allergies are rarer but possible. Strep throat is serious enough with potential lethal complications, so hopefully it is just from the Biaxin, but it could be complications, so it is worthwhile to see your doctor again and get further tested if necessary. The kidneys or glomerulonephritis can cause similar symptoms like the bad taste, and maybe headaches if blood pressure affected. If so it is important to get clear what the symptoms are really from as soon as possible.

Biaxin can cause a metallic taste in the mouth, and it will take 2-4 days to see any results from the antibiotic, it can also be hard on the stomach so make sure you eat before taking it. if your symptoms don't improve or you are worried about it call your doctor.

Yeah. I had strep and pneumonia and have said for the last couple years the Biaxin made my breath smell like a noxious gas. I swear I was able to smell the pill sitting in my stomach. It made me nauseated and just put of the most noxious odor in my mouth.
I am a nurse and always warn my patients about that stink from personal experience.

biaxin has several of these side effects. check with doctor
and tell him that the side effects are really bothering you he may be able to put you on something different
