My company is closing it's center in AZ and I have a choice of going to Des Moines IA, Pocatello ID or Boise ID. Give me some opinions. (I'm not going to Iowa)

Hey, the number one reason you should go to Boise is that you have a job offer there! But there are others...
It is a growing place, which means new people and opportunities since it doesn't have that 'small town attitude.' But the people are friendly.

I thought of two places for you to spend some time researching: the weather - it has a lot of winter! and the local news - does that suit you?

Local News: http://www.ktvb.com/

;-D I hope you like winter sports!

Having been to all 3 cities (and I've actually lived in 2 of them) I'd go with Boise. It's a larger city with an active social atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful mountains. The climate is relatively temprate (if you're from Az think Payson) and the winters are better then Des Moines or Pocatello. Unfortunately, I personally hate Boise, but I live in N. Idaho now, so I'm a bit spoiled by our small town atmosphere. If you enjoy Az, you'll like Boise the best.

Pocatello is smaller than Boise (hence, less to do there). Poki is always windy and the winters are pretty cold. But if you like going to national parks, Pocatello is closest to the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. (It's also closer to Yellowstone).

Boise is the 3rd largest city in the Northwest. It's generally warmer than Pocatello. (In fact, if it snows, the snow doesn't usually stay for more than a day). WAY more stuff to do there. One downside to Boise is that the streets get more congested than Poki, and ACHD (Ada County Highway District) always seems to be doing road construction at the worst times during the year.

I think both areas have nearby ski resorts too. The one near Boise is called "Bogus Basin" and the closest one to Pocatello is "Pomerelle".

If you like the outdoor life (snow skiing, hiking, camping, etc.) then you should go to Idaho because all that kind of stuff is great there.

If you like the city life (bar hopping, clubbing, shopping, etc.) then it might not be the place for you. The towns aren't very big, and there's not always a lot of nightlife happening - even in the larger towns.

So it really depends on your lifestyle preferences. Boise is probably the bigger of the two, but Pocatello is definitely closer to Salt Lake City, if you don't mind driving.

Boise is the best choice. It has a very diverse culture. A lot of recreational activites are very close, and Boise was rated one of the best places to live in 2006.

Pocatello is not very nice, its really cold in the winter, not much to do.

Idaho is beautiful and Boise is in a warmer area-- the banana belt of Idaho. Fabulous skiing isn't far away, and the mountains are also close by. Coeur d'Alene is even prettier. Out of the 3 choices, I'd choose Boise. My grandmother used to live there and it was always a pleasant place to visit.

Boise has grown since I lived there, visited friends this summer, it has a great diversity of interests Bogus Basin to ski, old towns around the area, it has its deserts and mountains.
Houseing is getting expensive there too where as pokie is a little more reasonable but less progressive.
I liked Boise most places people are friendly and there's more cultural activities

Idaho is beautiful. Plus its easy access to montana, the northwest coast, as well as Canadian Rockies, and we all know what comes out of B.C. I would love to visit Idaho

It's obvious. Rent the Richard Pryor movie "Moving", and you will understand why everyone moves to Boise.
