He's been mooching for 6 months and no intention to get his own place, only works 20 hrs a week so he can pay for nice clothes and beer, I don't understand how his family isn't ashamed for not teaching each other not to take advantage of others, but that is their way of life, they seem to think I owe them, I also had his other brother, the wife and 3 kids over six months and they were(the adults) disrespectful and needy.abusive to their children! but my husband wasn't there to witness this since he was in irak. my husband and I only got 7 months of privacy after he got back before his "baby brother" moved in. Since my husband is not like the rest of his family, they take advantage of his kindness, is not that they need help is just that they rather have anyone take care of their responsabilities or whatever they get away with. since I don't know how to play their games I ask any of you to give me any tips on how to get rid of them please!.the honest, foward way didn't work. any ideas?

Assign chores: Take out the trash. Do the dishes. Walk the dog (including disposing of the droppings). Do the laundry (might be risky considering suggestions from one of the other answers!). Vacuum the house.
Start with one chore. How can he refuse one chore in return for room and board? After a while, say that something has come up and would he mind walking the dog? And so forth.
Little stuff. Constantly. Don't let him sit down to relax for more than a few minutes at a time. But not all at once or he'll catch on that it is deliberate.
Start having large parties with your girl friends and their 2-year olds. Schedule them during his normal TV time--I'm sure he'll enjoy SpongeBob Squarepants as much as the children. Feel free to have everybody chorus the theme song. Ask him to not be shy and join in.
You and your husband should have long, intimate chats with him--after you have eaten lots of garlic and onions. When he repositions his chair, rearrange yours. Keep your voices low so he is forced to lean towards you.
By the way, I have found that this works very well for cutting silly staff meetings down to the minimum duration...
Gradually escalate the stress until either:
1) You decide to keep the live-in servant :-)
2) He decides to move out
3) One of you kills the other! :-) (joke, really!)
Good luck!

Start passing big hints, such as help him find an apartment. Start clipping apartment rentals out of the newspaper and offering to go with him to look at them. Hand him the newspaper with the good deals circled.
Start giving him big chores. Leave him notes to tell him to do the dishes and take out the trash. Mow the lawn and mop
Be a pest and start asking him if you can borrow $20 bucks and then dont re pay him.
Start washing his blue jeans by putting bleach on top of them. Put your red shirts in with his white underwear and wash them on the hottest water cycle. or, put his blue jeans in with his white shirts.
Be as obnoxious as you can possibly be and hopefull he will take a hint and get out
I have the same problem with my boyfriends kids who are all adults and keep moving home to mooch. They are the reason I will not get married.

Tell them that it is past time for them to be on their own and when they do go out... even if for beer.... change the locks or put a chain lock on for the meantime.
HOWEVER, if they do even pay a few bucks in rent.... you need to go to the courthouse to go through eviction proceedings. It's the law.... everywhere in the US.
Hope I helped and I wish you luck in getting the freeloaders out. If that doesn't work..... put NAIR Lotion in their conditioner bottles and at least you will get a laugh out of it all.

If honest and forward didn't work then your going to have to get mean and nasty. Declare war on him(them) and do whatever it takes. Tell him to get off his lazy butt, pack his sh*t and get the hell out. Tell him he has 1 hour to get gone or your calling the law. This is your home and he is the intruder so don't be afraid to put your war face on. If he is a professional bum then he'll land his lazy a*s on somebody else's couch. Stop taking it and get mean!

Throw out his belongings and lock all guest room doors. Get him to leave. Change house locks.
Best done when he is not in......dump all his belongings outside.
