I am need of a basic cell phone with easy to use features and limited fancy functions. Large keys and number displays with lighted background, easy to answer and retrieve voice mail messages, easy to set volume control and protected keypad cover so that there is no accidental dialing. What do you suggest?
Thank you.

Any of the low-end Nokia phones are usually a good, basic, phone. I don't know how big the keys are, but the tend to seem a little bigger than many phones have, and they have a raised dot on the five to help you further.

All phones that are not flip phones have a fairly easy way to lock the key pad. Often its a matter of hitting "menu" and then "star" (or something like that). Also, if you don't set up speed dialing on your phone the only thing that can happen (for the most part) is the phone could accidentally sign onto the Internet. If the phone you get doesn't sign on with the mere press of one button that wouldn't happen either. They all tend to be easy to answer. They all tend to retrieve voice mail easily and the same way. They all tend have lighted dials. Flip-phones don't dial anybody by accident.

With regard to volume there are different volumes, and you should find out how easy it is adjust them. There is the volume for the phone's ringer (usually easy to change). There is the volume for how loud your caller comes across in the earpiece (this one can be a little trickier in some phones). There is also keypad volume, usually easy to change and just leave it.

Most of the lower-priced phones are pretty simple, because you pay for the fancier features. The Motorola C139 is about as basic as it can get, although it is very small. The Nokia 6010 is a pretty large phone with big keys.

NOKIA 6010 is very basic, very functional. And you can slam it against a wall, pick it up and make another call. I've been using the original battery for about two years and it still has a stand-by time of almost a week.

Most Nokias are very easy and straight forward to use, Nokia is famous for being of the most user friendly phones.

Nokia 6010 It is easy to use, doesn't have a bunch of crap you don't need, and withstands lots of battle damage.
It is really simple to lock and unlock your keys, turn on and off, answer, and listen to voicemail. I have had a few phones, but this one is my favorite.
