I was thinking of getting a guinea pig. I was just wondering how hard they are to take care of, etc.

Wow, you're a loser! You should seriously get a life and stop worrying about a stupid guniea pig....What would your husband think you big dork! Come on now.....don't you get enough attention at home?!?! How old are you anyway?

You should stop worrying about getting a pet when you've got an adorable little boy kitten to play with next door?

Haha! (I'm her neighbor, not a *****). :)

If you get a Guinea Pig, I'm going to come and play with it all the time!

They are very easy to care for. They just need a bowl of guinea pig cereal and a handfull of carrots/celery in the morning and evening. Our 3 need their hutch cleaned out once per week. Shavings with newspaper underneath seem to work the best. They can be very skittish and take a long time to get used to people unless they are indoors and around you a lot. Ours are outdoors in a small pen. My daughter quickly lost interest in them thinking they are boring so now they have become a hassle to keep as there is no purpose to them for us and we have other animals and pets to care for. Rabbits appear to be easier to tame and to play with. Having said that they are very cute though and make the funniest noises especially when they let you know its feed time. So if you have time to spend handling them regularly (maybe an indoor exercise box) and you don't want larger pets they are very easy to keep. If you have flat areas outdoors that need weeds or grass removed you could put them in a grazing arc.

I have two guinea pigs, and I'm a big dork, so lucky for you I made them a website - if you peruse through it it should give you an idea of what goes into their care, and their personalities. I personally love mine! =)

They aren't all that hard to care for. I had one in my classroom. He had more personality than I thought a rodent would have! The biggest thing is cleaning the cage frequently, as it gets stinky very quickly. But, if you don't mind that, or their short life cycle, they are pretty easy pets to have.

If you are not averse to cleaning the cage every other day, not that bad. I do recommend the short hair breeds though.
