It's only the best years of your life, if you peak in high school. These are the people who everyone bows to their every wish, they will never be of any value to society (the real world) as they were in high school. Honestly that is just sad. Just think, if you live to be 80 and the best years of your life were 4 years you probably will not even remember. So the people who say this are the people who do not have much to look forward to after they graduate high school. I agree with you high school can be pretty horrible, but look at like this: you are just beginning to live your life, those people are over! You have your 20's to learn who you are and what you want to do to make a difference in this world, even if it is a small contribution. They will never be more than what they are in high school. Keep your head up, good luck!

It's what you make it actually. It goes by really quickly and it's the last time you will be considered a minor. After high school you are now an adult and adulthood is for the rest of your life. The youthfulness of appearance, attitude, dress and thinking are beginning to fade away, so slowly you don't even realize it. You didn't have to be a jock or a cheerleader to enjoy yourself. All you needed were your own group of friends. You're dating and driving, alot of things are new. Alot of things are exciting and some are frustrating, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Sure, popular people and bullies can make your life hell. But, wait until you are in charge of your own life, paying bills, making choices, working every goddamned day of your life just to put food on your table. Taking care of youself, your family, your house. Not only is high school one of the best times of your life, but the best chance you have of making something of yourself. Do your best to get a good education and pay attention, so you can get in to a good college and study something useful (something in the medicine and/or tech fields). Sure, the world needs communications majors, but not at $100K a year salary : (
Ignore the bullies and the popular kids. Have fun when you can and make your own fun when you can't. Socialize and make friends, but get an education and stick with it. Mom and Dad won't be around forever to take care of you and it sucks when you get into the "real world" and you realize you can't always get what you want.

Cuz those people never fulfilled their potential. Or maybe they never had any at all.
High school was just fine, I had enough friends and fun and all that, but I always knew something better was out there for me. College rocked. And those are the friends that I will stay in touch with throughout my life!
I got my invite to my ten year HS reunion and I felt nothing. No desire to go, don't really care about anyone and certainly don't care what anyone from HS might think of me!

They were the worst years of my life. I guess they say it when they are the popular girls. After high school all they are ever going to have is the glory of once being popular, once they settle into a life of mediocrity, thats all they'll have. And the nerds (like me) hopefully end up with it all.

I would never say it!
I say that the high school years are the worst years that have to be endured, and that what's coming is great, and well worth waiting for.
What's strange is that we sometimes look back on those years and remember the good times, forgetting the bad or letting it fade as not-so-great memories sometimes do.
That's why I believe some adults say it.

High School wasn't the best time of my life... but at least I got three months off every summer and didn't have to worry about making rent, paying insurance, dealing with dental bills, & all the other BS that come along with being an adult. Make the best of it and enjoy it while you can.

Because some people were the popular kids, the cheerleaders, the jocks, etc. and their life has gone downhill since. Maybe their life in high school was pretty much carefree. Think of it - the older you get (marriage, kids, stinkin' job, health ...)high school memories look pretty sparkly.

Only the mean popular girls, bullies, and jocks say that because once high school is over, their rein is over, and their life is now meaningless.

You are so right. High school is NOT the best years of ones life. The people who say this I think are trying to be optomistic so kids don't drop out.
