Forget the electric bill, it is a serious safety hazard. There is electricity flowing to that socket! You don't want to electrocute yourself or some innocent child.

no but you should turn the switch off because its a danger being on with no bulb. the socket is still "live" with electric and could short out and cause a fire if an insect would go into it or something accidentally gets in it

Very DANGEROUS situation. You can buy a plug from Walmart and screw it in there if your not going to be using a light bulb. If you're not drawing any WATTAGE from a socket, no electricity is being used.IF THE SWITCH IS ON, YES, THERE IS ELECTRICITY THERE BUT NONE IS BEING USED. Be careful.110volts can be deadly!

If someone is born with a brain but asks questions with obvious answers like this one, is it being used?

Of course not. If energy is not being converted to heat and light, how can you use electricity????????

Assuming the light is the only thing controlled by the switch then no.

No, because the light would complete the current path. Without a complete path, electricity won't flow, so there's nothing for the meter to count.

No. There has to be a complete circuit for electricity to flow.

You have to have a complete circuit to use electricity. You don't have a complete circuit, so you're not using electricity.

Not at all...without that complete circuit theres no current flow therefore no electric is being used.
