This happened to me and it turned out to be a sign of severe pre-eclampsia. An hour after calling my OB, I was having an emergency C-section.
I don't mean to scare you, but if you are retaining a lot of water or if your bp has been up at your appts lately, you may want to give your OB's service a quick call. I'm sure everything is fine..but you want to be sure!
Another possible reason for the chest pain could be gallstones. These are very common at the end of pregnancy, because estrogen and progesterone form stones.
Good luck to you! Best wishes for a quick and easy labor!

Ashley, congratulations on the impending birth. I am a nursing student and this rotation is OB. I have my nursing book here...the chest pain is something you may want to consult your doctor about as it is not generally a sign of impending labor. Stomach pain could be from something you ate. False labor sometimes "can be felt in the back or abdomen above the navel". If it was constant then eased up, probably not labor b/c contractions are periods of seconds to minutes. Does your stomach area tighten up when you think they are contractions? The whole thing will get hard if so. If I were you, just as a precaution, call your doctor. It is most likely something you ate, or how you were sitting/standing. By the way, something they don't always tell you, when you lay down, lay on your side or on your back w/a pillow wedged under your right hip. The reason is b/c the weight of laying on your back may slow down the blood flow through the vena cava and may make you get something called supine hypotension. It may cause your chest to not feel so good b/c the blood is being blocked. Please call your health care provider just to be safe. Do NOT be alarmed at all. Ask your doctor to tell you some general signs of labor. Ask them about your chest pain. To feel more comfortable, lay on your side when you lay down, take a warm shower to relax your back muscles, and drink warm tea or milk. It does wonders to relax you. Good luck and you will be just fine. Labor may seem scary, but it is a wonderful, bonding experience that you will understand when you see that beautiful child's face for the first time.

I'm 39 weeks and I have a lot of chest, stomach, and back pain.. Most of the time when I have contractions is when i get the chest pain, like i can't breathe..And I have heartburn real bad also and that is from contractions.. Your body is probably getting ready for labor! mine has been getting ready for about a week and a half now and my contractions are down to 6 minutes apart-they told me to come in when I am 3 minutes apart..I HATE calling my Dr..But maybe you should just in case and let them know what is going on, and they will probably want you to come in..But if it is pain that is not bad-then going up to the hospital and just sitting around waiting for them to tell you to go home might not be something you want to do..Just think about it and I'm sure you will figure out on your own what's the best thing to do..You know your body better than anyone!!! you will make the right decision!!
hope i helped you!!

I don't think you would get chest pain when you have contractions unless it is a pain like it is harder to breath... but stomach and back pain can be a sign of labor... but if you have contractions that last too long the baby could become distressed and the baby's heart rate could start to drop... so just try to keep track of contractions if you start to have them...

You are having the same problem I had about a week or so ago. I was having such back & chest pain that I couldn't sleep more than 30 minute intervals and it made me so sick. I didn't think anything of it because with my first child I never went into labor, she was breech so they ended up doing a c-section the day of my 39th week.
Anyway, I went to my doctor appointment the end of that week and he told me I was definately having false labor and I should have came in anyway to get it checked out.
Definately get ahold of your dr or goto the ER asap. I should have done it!
Hope this helps! (I'm 38 weeks now also)

You're probably not in labor. I had horrible pains at the end of my pregnancy... Back, chest, hips, head everything... I constantly thought I was in labor. But if you;re nervous about it don't hesitate to go to the hospital... Don't be embrassed if you go and aren't in labor I went in 4 times thinking my water broke just to be sent home... The last time i went in i didn't want to... thought they'd make fun of me and when i finally went in (8 hours later) My water had in fact broken i got yelled at for not coming in sooner!

It's probably just your body getting ready for labor. Braxton hicks are normal at this time. Just make sure to keep an eye on the time in between the contractions, that's how you'll know.

Been a while since I had kids, but I don't remember chest pain being part of labor. Call your doctor or go to the er. Did it ever occur to you that you could be having a heart attack?

You should contact an advice nurse immeditaly, or go to the emergancy room. Do not leave anything to chance. I have 3 childern and I rememeber going to the emergancy room alot with my second child. You are already at full term, you are having chest pain even if you were not expecting chest pain should always be taken seriously. Please keep me posted. I am sure everthing will be fine.

Sounds like flagulence. It can cause all the symptoms you have described and it even makes sense if you think about it. LAy down and get your knees up in the air to try and straight out your spine. The pain will probably pass as will the gas.
