He has sensitivity to light. That condition gets worse as one ages, just like ones hearing can decline as they age.
Over the years he has had to wear darker lenses to filter light, to now when he appears on TV the lenses are quite dark.
If you notice, he wears dark glasses outdoors, and when on TV sets. In regards to TV, the lights are extremely bright.
Some people who have he condition, who do NOT want to wear sunglasses, will use a combination of eye drops and tinted contact lenses to block the effect of the TV lights.
When Paul S. appeared on CBS This Morning on May 15, 2015, he wore extremely dark sunglasses, they were quite noticeable.
Note: Having to wear sunglasses, Paul has money to get a wide variety style frames. If you have the coin, why not.

the dark lenses that shaffer wears are seizure preventing glasses. The cobalt blue lenses cut out a lot of the red wave length of light that can trigger seizures. It is also a lens that reduces photo sensitivity.

dave is just an annoying little dweeb! you are mistaken! paul has more talent in his toenail clippings than dave posesses alltold!it must be hard for paul to put up with the obnoxious lesion that dave is.
