So I cry at the drop of a hat. I saw a baby squirrel die and I cried. I cry at movies and tv shows sometimes. My feelings get hurt so easily. I've never had an enemy before but if I did, I would be upset knowing someone didn't like me. I'm too nice to people. I even took my ex boyfriend back after he abused me because he came to my house sobbing and saying he would kill himself. I did break up w/him again though and felt awful. What do I do to develop a tougher shell? People tell me I just have a big heart but I honest to God think I'm a pus pus I really need some suggestions on how to have a tougher core.

There is nothing wrong with being nice you big sweetheart, but you are too nice. You can get hurt from being to nice by (for instance) your ex-boyfriend. Developing a thick skin when you are so sensitive is not an easy thing. It takes hard knocks to develop that. Negative life experiences (that everyone avoids) is what does it. Until you have a few more of those, you will continue to be ultra sensitive. But, you sound like you would be a great friend! Just don't let people take advantage of you because of your temperament. They will!

This reminds me so much of myself when I was younger. I was a lot like this, and still am to some degree.

There are people in this world that seem to think that people aren't supposed to have feelings. They are wrong. We've got them for a reason.

I agree with the others. First of all, you may need to work on your self-esteem - especially after having come out of an abusive relationship. Standing up for your right to be who you are is part of having a "tougher core".

If you honestly feel like there is too much drama going on in your own life and in your own mind, I would say that you have to reach a point where you are simply "fed up" with it. That's not to say that you have to get angry, you just have to reach a point where you know what you have control over and you know what you want in your life, and you don't want to waste your time and energy on all of the drama anymore.

Yeah, I agree you Do have a heart of gold & unfortunately because of that people treat you like a doormat.
I don't know I guess not to be overly sensitive (??) Pause for a moment when you feel a surge of emotion come on and take a deep breath...
Clear your head, take a walk that kind of thing. There's nothing wrong with being selfless just not the expense that your happiness gets loss along the way.

When you suffer some of the perils in life that everyone has to. With age you will become less sensitive because you will realize that some things don't matter and somethings do.

hang out the ER, cemetary, police station, exposure to the real suffering will help you get the tears out. see the pain and suffering long enough and you can develop compassion without a flood. you still feel and are still nice, but you will be able to offer support.

You need to fix your inside by getting a better self-worth, then you won't be so melancholy.

Usually society will desensitize you so you should'nt have to worry about doing it yourself.
