"gut" meaning stomach, female equivalent: "Oh no, I think I've gained some weight. My jeans aren't zipping up as well."

"gut" meaning instinct, female equivalent: "I don't know, something just doesn't feel right." or "I know in my heart that he is good, but..."

"gut" is an ugly and awkward word. I never thought about it before you said it, but possibly we want to avoid things that are ugly and awkward whenever possible. crazy that u thought of that.

When my gut picks up that something is wrong,then I say the brain in my gut(or brain gut) is trying to tell me something.
