First of all say no to 'Piracy', its just not ethically right.
Secondly, DVD's especially PS2 DVD'S are made on regional basis. Asian DVDs cannot be played on US PS2 systems unless you purchase a modified chip which will be able to unlock the regional restriction. Modifying means you are going to lose warranty. Frankly, dont worry about warranty, 9 out of 10 PS2 works fine. The modification which will done is very minor.
PS2 has a "lockout Regional code" built into the game system that prevents it from playing non-U.S. games.
Remember Pirated DVDs also will ruin you optical lense and also the playing quality is very bad. Why buy a PS2 when you are playing wth pirated disc, its just useless. Respect the rights of the owner, you wouldnt steel a car, you wouldnt steel wallet, no one should purchase pirated DVDs, its world's number 1 enemy and the reason of global decline of DVD sales.

Because it's a different region code, you will need to get a mod chip (they cancel the warranty though, so check the date it expires just in case).

Because Sony has a "lockout" built into the game system that prevents it from playing non-U.S. games.
