What have been the largest buildings that have imploded due to bad construction or design? Of all the skyscrapers in the world, someone somewhere must have gotten it all wrong.

a couple come to mind...S.Korea ...6 level shopping mall collapsed about a decade ago...too many people. Cypress structure in Oakland , CA. also collapsed because the rebar wasn't right !...I was there !

I think the year was 1996. A department store in Seoul collapsed killing over 500 people. The story I heard was that the building was constructed using beach sand in the concrete instead of river sand, as required by law. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the story, but I know beach sand would contain salt, and probably more importantly, beach sand grains and river sand grains are shaped differently. Beach sand is highly eroded and the grains are round. River sand has a lot of jagged edges.

Some of the earliest pyramids were complete failures for the ancient Egyptians & they caved in. I think they were made of mud brick and couldn't hold. They collapsed.
