I was on birth control (various) for approx. 7 years. I've been off of all forms of birth control for about 2 years, and still don't have a normal period. I get it about every month and a half to two months, and it's normal. I'm seriously thinking about having children within the next while, and I'm wondering if you've had a similar experience and how easy/difficult it was for you to get pregnant. Thanks in advance :)

Honestly if you don't have a normal period I would try to do the fertile sticks.. but that might cost a bit of money. You can go to your doctor and she/he can actually help you calculate your fertility time and they can also give you pills that will help with ovulating. My friend had a hard time trying to get pregnant b/c like you she wasn't having normal periods monthly, sometimes she would get it monthly and sometimes she had it twice a month. So unless you have money to waste on fertility sticks, or try the bbt. But I would try a doctor first, they can actually help you more.

Start charting your basal body temperature now, so you can learn how your body operates. http://www.fertilityfriend.com has free charting and will help you learn how to do it. I used FF for 2 years, but needed surgery before I finally got pregnant. Most Doctors want you to try for up to a year before they will start testing. If you have been charting they will usually be willing to start testing much sooner, more like 6 months.

Once you start charting and tracking other fertility signs, you will begin to have a good idea of when the best time to try is. Generally 3 days before you ovulate to the day after is optimal. I wouldn't try the "fertility sticks," better known as ovulation predictor kits, because they are expensive, and with long, unpredictable cycles you could go through $60 worth of them each cycle. And if you miss a day, you might miss your positive result and REALLY waste some money.

Best of luck to you!

I've never had regular periods, even when on birth control. I have no difficulty getting pregnant (I have two babies, 2 1/2 years and 6 months). The difficulty is figuring out when you got pregnant. I realied on ultrasound which was tree days off for my first baby and right on the day for my second. Good Luck.
