Well, left handers are a minority. You can have a study and interpret the statistics to mean anything you want. I have read studies that indicated some left handedness is related to brain damage in early fetal development. I don't think this is always the case because several U.S. Presidents have been left handed. In fact if you go back to Latin, ambidexterous literally means "two right hands." Dexterity comes from the Latin for right hand. What is the word for left hand? Sinister....so anything sinister is something "left handed." Roman military tactics required everyone fight and move the same, so left handedness throws a cog into their military machine...It is also built into our culture.There are many actors and musicians among famous left handers so maybe it isn't so bad....and about the life expectancy thing...see wikipedia, the results may be inconclusive.

It's because we only make up 10% of the population. On the Simpsons, Ned Flanders had a good idea of making a store with things made specially for left-handed people. In China, left-handedness is considered a bad thing. I hear they break a child's left arm if he's left-handed so he has to use his right. I've also had people say that left-handed people are Satan's children, but I'm sure they're just joking. And is it just me, or does anyone else believe that left-handed masturbation is better than right? Try it sometimes, you right-handed bastards!

Good question. I believe the "stats" about a small minority of us being left handed are bunk. There are more natural left handers than science tells us.
There is a bias toward the right hand, that's why the word "right" meaning correct originates.
This is just an example of how in collective behavior people in the majority assume they are superior or more graced than others.

Wow I guess as a rightie i've never thought of all the struggles a left handed person has to go through. I could be a smart aleck, but i'm gonna give a real honest to goodness answer **GASP**!! The reason is....b/c in "old" days, (i'm not exactly sure when i'm gonna say like king/queen times) More people were right handed and if you were left handed you were an oddity, so things were created for right handed people to discourage people from using their left hands. I think they thought of it as a sign from the devil or some crap. I may be blowing hot air, but i swear i read this somewhere. lol. swear.

I hate having to write in a 3 ring binder, I have to take the paper out then put it back when I'm finished. It's such a waste of time.

My son is a left hander and u better be wrong about the life expectancy because I love him and would be devisated if he left this world before me!!!

I see where you are coming from, I have a 5 year old who is left handed and he is the ony one in the family. It makes it hard to help him do things because I'm not. He even holds his pencil wrong. I have to leave it up to his teacher to help him learn the right way.

you have lower life expectancies because everything is a struggle for you. They do create things for left handed people anymore, but not near enough.
You should create everything for your enjoyment & comfort. Hey, wait a minute? You mean you're not ambidextrous? :-)

My uncle was left handed. When he was in grade school, his teachers would smack his hand with a ruler to try to break him from what they thought was a bad habit. A neighbor of mine, who isn't very much older than me, went throught the same thing.
Manufacturers forget to keep left handed people in mind. You are people too.
