I normally think China, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Thailand, Tibet, Mongolia, Taiwan, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Macao, Malaysia..mmmmm..that's all I can think of right now..Oh..Nepal, Burma....Yep, although I know the continent of Asia is much larger..if I hear, "Asian", I assume one of the above..

Good question.
I've actually had friends from several different parts of Asia, and have gotten lectured on all the many differences both physically and culturally in each nationality. Therefore...I generally think of several different countries all at once when "Asian" comes to mind.
It's funny, but before I had given it too much thought, I think I reserved Pakistani people as Middle Eastern, and Indian as, well, just from India.
Asian doesn't evoke a solid mental picture for me now - Now I need the clarifying of countries to try to picture someone.

Asian is anyone who has their roots in any of the South East Asian countries. It also includes people from China (includes Hong Kong and Macau), Taiwan, Korea.
Yeah..well..thats just about it..the rough picture..I could have missed out on a few countries..Indians are just..Indians.
Pakistanis i guess..they are just Pakistanis too. Middle Eastern would include people from the Middle Eastern countries (obviously..)..
My asnwer isn't very precise..but yeah..you get the idea..

Absolutely, I know many people from India and Pakistan. Although Pakistan is a Islamic Republic, I know it is in Asia, rather than the middle east.
