Well, Oakland County's not really the best area for inexpensive restaurants- either it's fast food or it's a sit-down restaurant. But here's some ideas:

Jimmy John's sandwiches are popping up all over the place... they have 6inch subs for 2.99 (with pop and chips just over five bucks).

Marinelli's (Italian Restaurant at the 12 Mile Road I-75 exit) has an excellent lunch pizza, salad, and soup buffet for 7 bucks (not inexpensive, but well worth it)

I don't know where you are exactly, but a lot of Chinese places have lunch combos or lunch specials on their take out menus that include main dish, fried rice and egg roll for something around $5. Or, if there's one near you, you can go to a Chinese buffet (Peking Buffet on John R between 13 and 14 Mile for example) and ask for a carry-out box, and then put whatever you want in it (meat, seafood, rice or noodles, and sides), and it's sold by the pound (a $5-6 box will have plenty of food, you just have to make sure you don't overload it or it will be more expensive).

I know it's somewhat fast food, but the best hamburger place around here by far is Rally's (sometimes called Checkers), there's one on 12 Mile, and one on 14 Mile and Crooks... combos for under $5, and yes, it's hamburgers and fries mostly, but the chicken (all chicken sandwiches and the tenders), are seasoned and way bigger and better than Wendys or Arbys. And the fries are different and much tastier.

A much better place for inexpensive restaurants is Ann Arbor (i used to be a student there) because they're all catering to the poor college student... so if you're in and around Rochester (University Drive- Oakland University), you might be able to find some low-key places offering low prices to feed hungry students.

Sorry there aren't any real deals around here!
