Wecome to Supergroup Smackdown. The top 8 have been seeded, and 16 other bands now vie for position. Bands 7 and 8 take the stage.

Temple of the Dog (1990) -
Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) Matt Cameron (Soundgarden) Stone Gossard (Mother Love Bone) Jeff Ament (Mother Love Bone) Mike McCready (Pearl Jam)

vs.

Oysterhead (2000) -
Trey Anastasio (Phish) Les Claypool (Primus) Stewart Copeland (The Police)

Smart money in this round falls to Temple, with it's pre-Pearl Jam members, which formed after the suicide of Andrew Wood from the members of Mother Love Bone.

But the underrated Oysterhead, with influences from both Phish and Primus, might come from behind here.

I debated including Eddie Vedder in the proper lineup. In the end, I defered to their entry on the wiki page for supergroups, which does not list him in the official lineup, but rather lists him as "guest backing vocals."

If I remeber correctly, he auditioned for Pearl Jam, and the other members, who were involved with the Temple project, invited him to become involved.

Temple of the Dog is far superior and you forgot a key factor: Temple also featured the song stylings of one Eddie Vedder on their best songs. Hunger Strike has both Chris and Eddie singing!

Oysterhead on the other hand is two-thirds awesome. Which two-thirds you say? The two-thirds that were never in Phish!
