From what I've heard, kinky hair.

I'm white, but I always feel bad for black women who think they have to process the hell out of their hair, even get burns from straighteners, in order to look professional.

hair that is only washed maybe once or twice a week.
hair that is rich in oil & high in shine.
don't be ashamed girl.. "Get up off of that thang, and dance till you feel betta"

It's ok to have nappy hair. Just brush it regularly and shampoo it daily, with anti-oil shampoo. Straightening it will help greatly too.

Well, I always got the impression that black women really did not like their hair. And a black womans hair is hard to grow, and with the grease that they use it just sticks up everywhere. And doesn't "flow" So, ergo, there you have the term "nappy". I am not sure where it really came from.
