I believe that life is what we make it, but what we do today commonly has a negative impact on both ourselves and everyone else. Sometimes the best things in life are free, but it depends on whether you can see them or not. Because focusing on other costly things will cause us to lose that which is free. I enjoy what is free, and unfortunately I am happy that not many others also see what I do. Free does not remain free unless all others remain ignorant. For this reason, I believe that what is free is what cannot be controlled, or what is perceived by many to be valueless or is ignored despite its value. I hope that you realize the truth in this answer and take delight in the overall cheapness of goodness. Let's hope no one else catches on.

Google the Four Noble Truths. In order to recognize the "best things" you should understand the roots of the "worst things." Are you old enough to remember 5 years ago, TV stopped showing shows, the stock exchange shut down, and everyone shared a silent common grief when they passed each other. For a few days people made eye contact with each other, people were eager to help each other, or at least reach out to someone they wouldn't otherwise acknowledge. Of course what happened was not a good thing, but we were good to each other, even if it was just for a few days. I think it's more true now than it's ever been.

Yes, I absolutely do believe that, because for me the best things are related to the people I love, or experiences I've had: my son's first laugh, waking up and seeing my husband beside me, etc. Those are intangible things that can't be bought.

However - I absolutely believe it's easier to be happy if one has a comfortable amount of money and isn't having to worry about how food, rent, and medical care are going to be paid for. Having to scrabble to survive really takes the pleasure out of life, no matter how beautiful that free sunset out the window is.

I also think that money can help us afford experiences we might not have otherwise had. The view of Notre Dame from the left bank of Paris may be free, but the plane tickets to get there sure aren't.

The fact that there are crappy things going on in the world can make things bittersweet or add a little fear that they may go away, but it can also intensity one's awareness and therefore pleasure in them.

I happen to think that this is true. Although it is true that our modern day we must pay for many things, but i also think that there are two things in this world that we wouldn't survive without that come for free: Love and compassion. Maybe not all the materialistic things can come to us for no price at all but our spirit awaits us to find the moments in life and the parts of our lives that don't cost a thing...and could never have a price out on them.

Yes. It's called steal it...Then it's free...

J/k

It depends on if you consider the best things in life to be material goods or things like love. I personally believe that love and happiness are the best things in the world, and those you can't buy with money. It's this materialistic world that makes everything seem to cost so much. You can't find true love or happiness by buying overly expensive cars, houses, boats, etc.

To an extent the best things are free like family and love. But, it's easier to enjoy life when your not getting bombarded with bills you cant pay. Trips to the beach or Europe aren't free and traveling is probably one of the best things in life to experience different cultures and see truly beautiful things.

Yes. Very much. This can be answered by answering the question "What is best?".
What is best to a child? Mother's milk;
What is best to a son/daughter? Parents;
What is best to a married man? Wife's Love;
What is best to parent? Love from their children;
What is best form of emotions? Smile;
Don't you feel that all the above are free and admit that you cannot buy with any cost?

As the Arabian proverb goes........enjoy life and make plenty of memories for they make a fine cushion in older years. Why? Because regardless of the situation, no one can take your memories away. That is why it is possible to be a slave outside the body but absolutley free inside.
