I've always wanted to become a psychiatrist more like a child psychiatrist about how long will i be in college for if i want to get a ph.d. How much will it cost to become a psychiatrist. how long for any other field of psychiatry.

A psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor, and it costs about $400,000 to go through medical school nowadays. Then you must complete a residency, but you will be earning an income at that point.
If you are starting from scratch as a high school graduate, your medical education will cost about $650,000 total.
If you want to be a psychological professional there are less exalted routes. You can go into counseling psychology, clinical psychology, or psychological social work with a master's degree, which is essentially six years of college. A Ph.D. is better, but you can obtain that over an extended time period on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Any of these routes will allow you to focus on children's needs if you like.
For any of these pathways, you need to work on your writing skills and learn to be attentive to things like capitalization and punctuation.

The problem is that in order to be a psychiatrist, you need to go through college, then four years of medical school, and then do a four year residency in psychiatry - that can be an extremely long (12 years) and expensive process. If you want to get a Ph.D. instead, you need to become a psychologist, not a psychiatrist. That will take you about four years of graduate school after getting your college degree, for a total of about 8 years.

A psychology degree can be obtained in four years but to be a psychiatrist requires medical school.

Yeah you do have to go to med school. The reason is a psychiatrist can prescribe meds and a psychologist can't and that's why the med school. And it depends on the school you go to as to what it will cost.
