I don't know it seems today that society downplays the value of one's virginity. So many young people I have spoken to have stated they are and have been for some time sexually active. I know many don't agree but I believe it's a credit to your character to be able to abstain from sexual acts. I'm not rationalizing being a virgin, but I don't understand why so many believe they NEED to have sex in order to appease anyone else. A true sign of unreedeming qualities would be the ability to denounce pleasures of the flesh, but I don't see any restraint in todays society aside from certain virginal organizations. I think it's a measure of intelligence and self respect to abstain from sexual intercourse until at least marriage or with someone you love very dearly. One major question: besides the obvious reasons for procreation, why are so many concerned with intercourse and sexual acts? Is this the new measure of character and personhood in todays society? How many partners is too many?

Abstinence is only practical when you don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend.

I'm a 50 year old sex addict. Lost my virginity at age 7 to a sexual predator, and I'd like to say wait until you find someone very special to share yourself with. Don't give it away to 'win' someone's love because the love comes first or it will never appear at all. Don't do your guy a favor, there is no such thing as 'blue balls'. Remember you are special and wait til you meet a guy who is special to you. Love is wanting someone else to be happy, so if the guy loves you he will wait. >>done preaching now. Peace

Wow that was awesome!! I agree with you totally. Beyond that these same people get freaked out when one becomes pregnant and then wants to use abortion as a means of birth control when abstinence would have worked all along. Good for you I hope you're proud of yourself because you really should be!!!

No abstinence does not matter to me, I'm 15 and a virgin. I don't have sex because I don't want to, but if I did I would but not with some random person. I wouldn't do it to please someone else I would do it for me. When people ask if I'm a virgin i say its not their business. Who are they to dwell and learn of my intimate experiences?

Abstinence is very important to me...I don't think it's right to lose your virginity to just anybody, or to someone you hardly know (two weeks just doesn't cut it as knowing someone.) I'm 16, yet I can't see how all these kids my age can go around doing the nasty with everything that moves...It's just...wrong...

I agree that children are having sex younger and younger and with more and more partners. I think that it has to with television, internet, advertising, etc... Sex sells period. I think parents need to have more open conversations with their children. I think schools need to address it at a younger age.

Sex is a normal part of adult life. Abstinence is unnatural, and what is worse, pointless. It is reasonable to be discriminating, particularly in this era of STD's, but that is not the same thing as abstinence.
