I think it's ridiculous. Some people don't want to get a credit card for personal reasons (for me, it's because I know I couldn't trust myself if I had that sort of disposable 'money'. The closest I have ever had and will ever have to a credit card is my debit card. I refuse to so much as risk getting into such horrible debt as my parents have been in the past.) Many people, especially low-income families, depend on layaway to be able to buy their children gift for birthdays or Christmas/Channukah/Yule, or whichever winterish holiday they celebrate. It's extremely unfair of Wal*Mart to do away with it.

I don't believe it'll stay gone. There'll be too big a protest for layaway to not be reinstated, at least in time for Christmas.

Wal Mart has always attracted the lowest denominator of customer. Most are fine and pleasant, but there are a few that are just rotten. They are trying to bring up their stores. There are many WM customers that trash the store. When I go into WM, there are kids running around the store like it is a gym.

There is also economics behind this. It is expensive to have lay away. I know that in some stores, people put stuff on lay away and do not pick it up.

As for your interest comment, if they cannot afford the items, then they should not buy them.

They will not lose a lot of customers because everyone else is getting out of lay away.

Wal*Mart decided that it was less expensive to do without layaway... the storage fees, restocking, and so forth, the space they feel can be better served in providing customers with better stock. Also more expensive higher line goods, they are basically cutting the lowest common denomenator (the lower class) their best customers off from a service that's been around for a long time. They also aren't the only ones doing it, it would seem only Kmart is planning to keep layaway.

i develop into disillusioned that they did away with Lay Away too. Now the in basic terms position to bypass might want to be ok Mart. Being that funds is tight in our kin, we had to do precisely a touch our Christmas buying at ok Mart, on the grounds that i do not prefer to get a Wal-mart card and pay the interest.

Because people abuse the system. They pay the minimum and tie down stock for months at a time. So for 3 months anything from shoes to a camera which could be sold are sitting there while someone decides to or not to get something. At the same time people could buy it.

And some people put TVs and high ticket items on layaway and hope they go on sale, and keep extending their merchandise

Its a good deal, for Wal-Mart. Laway eats up a lot of profit for them. Most layaways end up as cancelled, meanwhile the merchandise sits in the back and doesn't get sold.

If you like money, just save up in advance or get a credit card.

Was only a matter of time. Everyone else has cut their layaway
programs and their not very cost effective. I think they lose more
money than it is worth. Still as a customer. It was a nice option.

When did Wal-mart have lay-away? With credit cards, why do we need layaway

There are people that abuse the layaway system at Walmart. There are people that need the layaway system at Walmart. Too many of them need it. Don't forsee them getting rid of it. If they do, I do see alot more customers going to where they can finance it in a layaway in other department stores..
