Fundamentally, yes. After all as a biological entity we are genetically programmed, a la Charles Darwin, to procreate ourselves.
Human civilization has, however, made this function far more interesting by adding a lot of do's and dont's around it. Thus sex now performs functions far more than procreation. Providing emotional security, mental diversion, relaxation, exercise, bridging up differneces, establishing trust etc for instance.

Sex by design was meant to be for procreation.
According to Darwinian Theories, any species that would multiply faster than the rate of its decline would delay/avoid extinction. Hence, Sex is/was the tool for survival.
In human species, Sex is no longer a tool for procreation. Its the process that matters for the "evolved" human.

Yes, and also for the process of pleasure. Schedule an appointment at Planned Parenthood if you'd like the pleasure but not the procreation. The procreation is avoidable.

Whether you look to religion or to the big bang theory, yes sex is for procreation. Only two types of creatures on the earth are known to have the benefit of orgasm, humans and dolphins.

Yes. The one and only objective and goal for any living being is to create next generation. Tha is the only one goal intended to be done by all living beings. All the other which are considered as achievement are all passing shadows.
This is the only power given by GOD to all living beings.

"Da Ya Think I'm SEXy?"
Rod Stewart / Carmine Appice
Sugar, sugar
She sits alone waiting for suggestions
He's so nervous avoiding all the questions
His lips are dry, her heart is gently pounding
Don't you just know exactly what they're thinking
If you want my body and you think I'm SEXy
come on sugar let me know.
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
come on honey tell me so
Tell me so baby
......................................................
"PRESENTABLE, adj. Hideously appareled after the manner of the time and place.
In Boorioboola-Gha a man is presentable on occasions of ceremony if he have his abdomen painted a bright blue and wear a cow's tail; in New York he may, if it please him, omit the paint, but after sunset he must wear two tails made of the wool of a sheep and dyed black."

What defines life...one part of the definition is the ability to reproduce.
I decided in my thirties not to reproduce. hmmm, I do not want to have my husband's children. I do not want to have sex with my husband.... I don't want him to touch me. I reject him.
I have a desire to find a man to start a new life with...for love and physical pleasure....yet not to have children.
No, for my breed of woman...sex is not at all about reproducing. It's about new experiences. Nothing tastes as sweet to the soul at the moment.

It's also about sharing physical pleasure with a fellow human being. And if you're lucky enough to have found that special someone, then it's also about love.

For animals - other than humans - yes, it is. For humans, it is too - but only between a man and a woman. Two men or two women can't create a baby. (Thankfully.)
