Baby boomers are people born between the years of 1946 and 1964. There was a population boom just after the war ended all over the world and this was the generation that was given birth to.

Boomers had huge consumer power as young people and unfortunately advertising executives and tv programmers and movie producers forget that and focus on those between 12-49. We're still breathing and consuming.

Boomers are very diverse, those born between 46 and 52, found employment easily.
Those born between 53 and 59 oftem faced umepmloyement and recession when they graduated from college and or hs and are not as well off as their older baby boomer brothers and sisters. Those born between 60 and 64 are at the end of boom cycle and alot of the time relate more to Generation X than boomers.

Boomers brought you some of the best music of the sixties and seventies, some of the best art and some of the most interesting changes in psychology and aging and how they looked at the world. There is though an obvious divide in the boom generation depending upon their fortunes. They also brought alot of social problems with them that are still resonnating today.

The boomers faced new math, new spelling and all kinds of educational changes and upheaval.

We're coming into our own now , the next twenty years is going to be verrrry interesting.

World War II ended in 1945. After the fighting men returned home there was a sharp rise in the birth rate. That was the beginning of the "baby boomer" generation. It consists of all people born between 1946 and 1964.

The reason we are called baby boomers is because after the second world war, there were many babies born almost an explosion of them if you will, also many children were left orphans due to the war, governments had to step in, I remember that when I started school an addition had to be built at our rural school, also when we all started high school, living in a rural area meant we were bused to high school, there was almost 5000 of us and there just wasn't enough room. Portable classrooms were moved onto the property and helped but, now many are ready to retire or getting close to it, can you imagine the work available when we are all retired. I believe there will be a shortage of manpower and especially in the nursing field, as it seems we are all living longer lives as we become more aware of health issues.

In the fortys all the DAddy's went to fight a war WW2 the women went to work in the ship yards and factorys. Drove tractors to grow food because the men were gone. It was a bad time. Grandma told me about it. Then the fiftys came and all the daddy's came home. Everyone was pregnant 44 million died in the war. They just kept having babies. Longer than most couples have babies. So here was a real baby boom.
So they nick named them the baby boomers.
