My dad and sister would kill me if I got married without them.

It would depend heavily on the reasons for wanting to elope, what the dynamics of relatives / friends were, also the financial situation. Sometimes if family are being over-involved and controlling that can cause a couple to want to elope. That was the case in my wedding but in the end, my husband and I figured that we were better off trudging through it because we had a set date for the wedding so after we got married the controlling antics would end - however if we'd eloped, the conroll / guilt trips etc could potentially go on indefinitely.
Hope that helps.

Absolutely. Everyone hates weddings but loves parties. Elope and then have a big casual party (for the gifts & money). Something outside where people can bring food and just have a great time (watching you open the gifts and money they brought)

Although it would seem like a good idea at the time, I would really want my close friends and family with me so I don't think I would be able to elope.

Absolutely.
I don't really want a big wedding.
Because i'm an Egyptian, big weddings are an absolute must. But i just hate the idea of having hundreds of people at my wedding and me sitting there not knowing who the hell most of them are.
I'd much rather it just be me and my husband.
Or my husband's family as well as my own.
But i'm talking immediate family, NOT uncles and aunts and grandmothers and grandfathers and cousins.
I just... like the idea of privacy.
I like the idea of me getting married on a beach in jeans and a t-shirt with a flower in my hair... and that's it, you know?
I may be odd but... elopement just seems right.

I was able to elope in Vegas (we loved it!) and then we did a wedding where we renewed our vow and I wore the white dress (and all that jazz) so our families could be involved too.
I've also heard of people eloping and then just having a family reception when they get home.

me and my husband did an elope wedding. saved a lot of money, and so much easier, no need to plan for a reception, and ceremony. It was just me and him, and we hired 2 witnesses. in my opinion it's better than having a big wedding. It's more intimate and private, means a lot more to me than a big wedding.

Heck, yeah. In fact, my sister's wedding went so far over budget that my dad offered me $10K if I would just elope.
I had to cash in on $5K of that when I was suddenly laid off a few years ago, but I think I could still do some damage in Vegas with what's left. I'm 31 and single if any of you is interested in marrying for money. Woo-hoo! Livin' large, baby!

Yes....we were going to but his Mom found out & "guilted" us into having a wedding.
It was very nice...but eloping would have been even better.

If my bride found it romantic to elope, then sure, I would. Anything for my honey.
