During Hurricane Katrina, many houses were flooded, cars totaled, and people killed. It was extremely unfortunate, especially for those of the people who no longer have anything. These people lost everything in the flood, their house, clothes, furniture, and more. Kind of like 13 year old Antoine Evans. His 3 dogs were lost in the storm, and so was his bike, his clothes and his aunt.
Less than half of the population of New Orleans moved back after the flood, fearing that their houses would get flooded again. Another reason they didn’t move back is because most of the population of New Orleans was low-income families that could not afford house insurance, and couldn’t afford to remake their houses.
This was a very unfortunate natural disaster that affected the whole country and hopefully won’t happen again. But hoping isn’t enough! Try making a book drive and sending them to one of the many organizations that help the hurricane victims. It’s easy to make a difference!

Along with this unfortunate disater came the goodness of folks giving their time and money and prayers. Have any of you heard about the emerg. responders and city employees of NY who are getting sick from helping that terrorist attack? The city recieved like a billion $ to help those who got sick or were injured on the job. They have not pd one cent toward these ppls horrible illnesses that have taken away their ability to work and some have died!! They have spent millions paying lawyers to fight the ppl who file for the funds that the gov't gave them for this purpose!!! They say these ppl had the conditions before 9-11!!Ppl exposed to asbestos are dying of cancer that usually take 15-30 yrs of working in coal mines or other dust particle type jobs.It is an advanced illness caused by breathing in the huge amount of dust that included many poisons and abestos, gases and all kinds of things. Children are left with shells of parents living on medications, in-halers, oxygen, and can't interact with their kids or work. They are losing homes and spouses and their lives have fallen apart because of the illnesses due to their response when the city called them to work!! One lady talked about spending thousands each mo on meds for her husband and not having enough each mo for other necessary things. The depression is awful from these wonderful workers picking up body parts for weeks and then getting sick. When they are unable to work and they wake up screaming from nightmares and disturbs the family, it only makes the depression worse. One young girl said her dad was so close to her before but she had to move out b/c he now can't get along with others b/c he is so sick. Everyone needs to write their gov't and tell them to take care of these ppl. It could be anyone of us next! My heart is hurting for these family's and the ones in New Orleans.Obviously N.O. wasn't taking care of it's ppl or making jobs available to many and sure weren't taking care of the the sea walls and their exit plans! What a waste of gov't pay to these ppl who run the city and state! What a waste of human life b/c of these ppls laziness and inability to do their job! NY ppl and those who went there to help need to have their medical bills taken care of and give special exams, to those who served ,for the diseases that have been showing up already so they might be able to stop major illness from happening or developing into what cann only lead to an early and unnecessary death! NY needs to stop fighting the ER workers and pay their bills! They haven't even been able to get worker's comp!Pray for leaders to get busy or quit so someone with integrity and worth ethics can get the job and take care of these cities and ppl!

There are many humanitarian efforts occurring as we speak. The country really came together on this one. A book drive is a great idea to bring a little more "normalcy" to the region!
