I have this killer long-sleeved navy blue dress, but I am loathe to wear navy hose or tights and I don't own any navy shoes. I know it's always optional to wear regular hose, which I would do as a last resort, but I would prefer the black tights. I consider myself pretty fashion-conscious, but I'm stumped here.

Not something that i would do, unless you want to resemble a bruise. Try natural colored hose and tan or brown shoes.
On a completely different level...wear what makes you feel good. As long as you feel confident about the way you look, wear what you want. Yor confidence will shine above your black shoes and hose. And if someone says something, tell them to stop looking at you. :)

I don't understand all of these answers saying "get matching navy shoes" - why in the world would your shoes need to be navy? That's so boring, especially with a solid colored dress. You could easily do a snappy pair of red shoes, style depending on what the dress looks like. You could also do silver or gold, or even black, with a bit of oomph to them. The black tights, given the right shoe, would look fine.

I think the look would be a bit "heavy" for lack of a better word. Tights, to me, say little girl. What does the dress look like? Is it fancy? Or a little more casual and subdued?
If it's a nicer dress, I hate to tell you, but I would go with nude hose and either black, silver or gold heels! Something to dress it up. I just think all of that dark color would be monotonous. Need something to add a little excitement, or a splash of color!
Definitely would not go with tights unless you are still young. Very young.

If it's really a killer dress, then it deserves some killer navy shoes to wear with nude hose. That way, you actually will look like you have some leg, and not be just a blob of "dark". Just my opinion, though, of what I would wear. Wear what you want to, what you feel good in, and don't worry if nobody else likes it. You're the only one you have to please.

Don't wear any hose at all. Shave and Oil the legs and strut your stuff. But, if the legs are not fab try a pair of fishnets tights. Never wear all dark any thing break the color up a bit. Do you have sandals

I'm sure black hose would look fine, black goes with anything. Maybe for something different you could wear white hose and go for that Alice in Wonderland look? I wear white hose quite a bit, I think they look great. I keep seeing them in all the fashion mags too... Oh, and please don't wear fishnets, they are reserved for hookers and transvestites.

In my opinion.... no, it's all to dark.
Wear a regular Pantyhose to show off your Navy Blue Dress and I would invest in some matching shoes.
