That's right, it's just an enclosure. The reason an enclosure is not dirt cheap is because it has to have some firmware to identify itself to the computer and to translate the requests from the computer to requests the hard drive understands.

You can put a standard 3½" hard drive in it. That's the size you'd normally put in a computer.

An actual hard drive will be anywhere between about $50 and $500 depending on capacity. Right now at my local shop the cheapest are 40GB for about $50 and the most expensive are 750GB for about $500.

Or of course if you have a spare hard drive laying around somewhere you can put it in.

Yup, your right. Enclosure = case. Its just the case, you still need to buy a 3.5" hard drive to stick in it, or if you have one already, you can stick it in.

nstant backup! Instant storage! Add up to 400G of disk space to your computer

which means its empty and you have to buy the harddrive. you may want to look into a thumbdrive depending on the amount of space you need.

This is not what you need. It is only Enclosure/Case/Carrier, this is to protecet a Hard Disk Inside

Why would you buy from RADIOSHACK??!!!??

That's just the case. I'd suggest you go to http://www.newegg.com and buy something from there it will almost certainly be cheaper.

It's an enclosure. You will have to add your own hard drive to it.

It's a case. If it was a harddrive, it would give you the specs on it.
