Depending on what actual talent with ESP they have, it may benefit them in practicing some forms of psychology. They could sense what a person can not (or will not) communicate. However, any problem is not actually with them, in the sense that it is not they who need to solve it. The "patient" will still need to work through the issues themselves, hopefully with the gifted person.

Depends. Is this person sympathetic or cruelly blunt? I think sympathy is more important than whether or not they have ESP.
