Before you jump all over me, let me explain. When a white person goes into a bad neighbor hood, they feel uncomfortable, right? Yes. But guess what? So do I! Some of those people can be vicious! So what I want to know is how do minorities discriminating acts affect you? No affirmative action answers, because I already know about this. Have you personally been turned down for a job because of the color of your skin? Have you had someone follow you around in a store because they think you will steal? Have you ever had anyone put nails in your tires because they hate that you are powerful and a color they don't like? I would love to hear life experiences, Please?

Sorry. "white" But you know what I meant, so that's all that matters.

Searcher-How do you know that it was because of the color of your skin?

Tygirljoj-great. I feel the same way when I'm around all black or all white people or all asians or any others. It just doesn't feel right when there is too much of on thing. I guess it's because I grew up moving to various parts of the world and country. You are right about the whites being discriminated against when they are the minority, and same if it was reversed.

I think EVERYONE has been discriminated against at one point or another. Heck, I never quite feel at home around all white people, nor do I feel at home visiting my mom's family in Thailand because I don't actually look Thai. Technically, though, when a person (asian, black, white, whatever) is in a place where they are no longer a part of the majority, they then become the minority, and that typically is the point where they get discriminated against.

its npot the color of ones skin, its the society that they live in. The way they grew up or theneighborhood they live in now is probably what causes this problem.
Also, when people go into a new environment that is not as well off as their's, then they feel uncomfortable, I know cuz sometimes I'll help take charity stuff down to poor barrios and the people there will just kind of stare at me and I'm thinking, God, do I look like I'm better then them? Do they think that?

Its really an waful feeling for me, but the issue is about racism right? Well, I'd like to just make my point and say that the problem isn't race, its just a new environent where everybody is new to each other, the majority in that area will make and treat the new person different cuz they want to test their ground.

I don't think minorities actually discriminate against whites. They force the Federal Government to do it.

No doubt Blacks are as or more prejudice than white people.

Yes, I have not been hired, by a VERY MAJOR department store because they were under federal orders to hire blacks. 1970. I have also worked, in a International company, as a "chooser" where I was TOLD to pick a certain number of minorities to be hired.......and yes even IF less qualified.

Yes, I have NOT been promoted because the Military hunchos said "Blacks will be advanced ahead of whites, even though they are less qualified". I have the military paper that that was in.

Yes, I have been followed around in a store because the people were afraid I would steal something.

You ask some good questions and they deserve truthful answers. Pops

I think we rush to judgement. As a white woman I always remind myself that while I may be in the majority in this country, I am a very small minority related to the world. Everyone has their predjudices. Whether they may be racial, religious, sexual.
One time I did turn in some license plate numbers of some teen dealers around my neighborhood. A couple of days later my tires were slashed. Did they do it? Probably. WHat was their race? It doesnt matter. They were doing something stupid and stupidy has no barriers. I also have been followed around many stores as a teen and rightfully so. We were very poor and shoplifted often. Something I am very ashamed of today.

I just always remember to treat others as I want to be treated and if they treat me poorly I am predjudice against that person not his race. As for bad neighborhoods, again, race does'nt matter but those entering are smart to be cautious and the fear is a natural pysiological response called the fight or flight response..

I get your point................when house hunting, husband would look 1st to rule then in or out [i was in another country] and one place he went to he said that he would not leave his car there let alone his wife and kids..............

If I dont a certain job then I assume it has been that I was not what they wanted at that time and personally find it silly that someone would bleat I did not get the job due I was black White Hispanic etc etc BUTTTTTTTTTTT for those in the military system [think mainly navy here please] I know for a fact that ANY application I turn in for the navy exchange on base I MIGHT get called in for an interview but very very very unlikely to get offered a job as the place is pretty much nothing but Filipinos......

As for get followed around a store not since I was a teenager [but ask ANY teenager that has entered a store in a group and they will tell you the same regardless of skin colour]

Recently, I applied for a position which was perfectly suited for my degree (I'm almost finished with my bachelor's degree). Every person in that location was hispanic. I'm white. I spent several hours working on my resume and cover letter and all I got was a "thank you" so I was not surprised when I didn't get a call for an interview.

So, yes, I have been discriminated against based upon the color of my skin.

I applied for a job at a major retailers (distribution center) and was turned down for the job when I was clearly.....clearly the more qualified person because there were minorities that had applied and they had to have ther "numbers" and i live in a small area so it is hard for them go get the numbers, however i took this in stride and went on with my life.....it should be noted that in no way shape or form am i racist!!! My very best friend is African american!
Thanks :)

Years ago, while in the military, I attended a black college to pick up a class that I needed. I am not black. While waiting in line during an admissions process, I was pulled out of the line by a black administrator and given personal assistance to help with my registration. I was actually given preferential treatment for being a different race in a black school. It was confusing and bizarre.

I'm not going to lie, I see white people in general as sneaky and untrustworthy. All white people aren't like that though, there are good and bad people in all races. By seeing white people as sneaky and untrustworthy I'm judging them before I even know them, in sense I suppose you could call that a type of discrimination. It's like when a person won't hire someone else for a job just because of the stereo-typical lies that society has placed on them.
