Wow great question? 1788 or 1800 depending on your viewpoint. Actual Connecticut/and the County of Westmoreland in current Pennsylvania became a State in the year 1788, however it was not till 12 years later that in 1800 by The Decree of Trenton where the federal government was probably due to upset frontiers man that didn't get paid from The American Revolution. (Yup they ran away.)(Kind of like they don't pay me the 200K federal reward or for federal input to Hollywood National Treasure wake movie, I guess I got to wait for the war to end.) So the federal government ruled for Pennsylvania and so then the Connecticut settelers in Pennsylvania's Wyoming Valley area burned Wilkes-Barre to the ground. Then the Connecticut Settelers were marched off in a bad rainstorm to the Delaware River by the Pennsylvania Militia . Then John Dickinson tried to fire the idiot in charge that marched them off but the Pennsylvania Assembly wouldn't listen to him. So Connecticut as you know it became a state in the year 1800 contrary to popular beleif. The Connecticut pansies as you probably know skiped right over New York probably because New York, the ones that didn't vote for The Declaration of Independence, had a strong British Governor with many Tory Regiments, despite Connecticut was granted land to the Pacific. But a lot of this is beyond the scope here...... kind of complicated:
1776 Connecticut organized the Wyoming Valley region as the County of Westmoreland.
July 4,1778 Tory Colonel Sir John Butler (1728-1794) led Loyalists and Indians on a raid through Wyoming Valley. Butler and his men joined forces with Mohawk chief Joseph Brant (1742-1807) and his braves. They fell upon the frontier town of Wyoming near the present site of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Almost all of the entire garrison of men, women, and children, were wiped out. This was called The Wyoming Massacre.
1788 Connecticut was admitted into The United States of America. However Connecticut still held claims to Pennsylvania land called The Wyoming Valley and built forts in Westmoreland County later ruled Pennsylvania land in the year 1800 by The Decree of Trenton where apon Connecticut Settelers burned Wilkes -Barre to the ground. One Fort was called Forty-Fort as these forts were designed as storage areas for forty families.
On January 9, 1788, the Convention at Hartford approved the Federal Constitution by a vote of 128 to 40. Connecticut became the fifth state to ratify the Constitution and to become a state in the United States of America.
Just try and beat that answer baby! I better win or I am going to quit! Either 1788 or 1800 you decide.
