I realize that someone asked a similar question (it was about DC's Deathstroke) but seeing as only myself and one other person answered that question he didn't get the answer he was looking for. It also got my wheels turning and i had to ask.... Does DC has some sort of system to rate there heroes and villians like Marvel does?
I'm looking for info in a similar style of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe... You know: peak human, super human 1, 10, 100 ect.....

thanks for the help!!!!!!

i dont know of any such "official" rating, but i know that theres the little "HeroClix" thingies, and those are all rated in a few different ways. we used to sell those things at work, and i've got a few of the cooler ones on my shelf of "guy stuff" in the office. lol. if i see some kinda rating thing as i poke through the comics and stuff, i'll letcha know.

No they don't that is the diff between Marvel and DC . Marvel has a realistic view of heros and villians ( hulk has class 100 strenth , Capt america is at peak of human perfection without becoming superhuman , reed richard is the smartest man on earth ). DC is more about hey they havesuperpowers they are really cool. Its this differnce that makes some people like Marvel so much better . You know how far Mr Fantastic can strech ,how far the hulk can jump , how fast quicksilver can run. DC are more simple Superman is strong batman is smart but never do they say how smart or how strong .

As it has been said DC did put out a Who's Who series a while back. It was ok but in my opinion not as detailed as Marvels cataloging of Superheroes. I did get some RPG stuff that seemed to reflect the characters pretty accurately. But I cant remember who put it out it might be Mayfair but I could not say for sure. As for the Heroclix thing. I have quite a few and thought they do asign number values to characters speed, attack, defence and Damage, it is not very accurate. It really do little to tell if Superman is Stronger then Shazam and such. Plus there has been many complaints as to just how accurate the Heroclix are. Many of the characters number values do not reflect just how effective they are in the comics. I would have to say that I would go to some of the RPG books to find out that information.

During the early stages of the recent Infinite Crisis mini-series, Checkmate had a ratings system as displayed in some of the scenes with "Brother I" and the O.M.A.C.s
Whether or not it's the official standard is unknown, for in all the previous Who's Who and Secret Files, DC will list a hero's various abilities (human, meta, etc), but not their upper limits.
You could try writing to DC directly and see if they would be willing to establish a standard ratings system, but personally I'm doubtful they would, for it would take some of the fun and creativity out of their tales.

DC is going to rerelease the who's who books as part of the Showcase presents series in the future. Marvel has their own official hand books. BTW DC has an encyclopedia that is kinda good.

I've also noticed that.

I think that DC is afraid of setting limits for their characters, given that they seem to want all of their heroes to be moreso like gods than a tad bit more "real" like Marvel characters. All the DC stuff just says that someone is basically "really strong" or "really fast" or "uses a vast array of magic".....

Did you ever notice that Marvel characters' powers are limited by the basis of the Laws of Physics, whereas DC characters' powers seem to bypass all that? NEvermind... I'm just rambling...

Yes.

When Mayfair was producing their DC role-paying games, they were given incredible access, detailed info and specifics on many of the DC characters.

Mayfair went out of business back in the early 90's I believe, but you can find many characters DC, Marvel and many others' stats at www.writeups.com.

Hope that helps.
