what is the best restaurant in san jose? no asian food (already know a lot of places). any good mexican or american restaurants?

My favorites so far are:
Smoke: Hawaiian BBQ (really good) in downtown San Jose
Alicia's Cafe: Mexican: A nugget located in the cambrian area
Tlakapaque-Mexican: Dive mexican restaurant in willow glen
Super High End: La Foret: Way back in Almaden Valley. Best food I have ever eaten (I have eaten everywhere)-Thats right the best restaurant is in your back yard (but you pay big $$$ for it)
Max's Opera Cafe: Awesome food-way too big portions (westgate area)
Mortons Steakhouse: Not built yet-but coming to San Jose--Yee Haa!
I also tend to hang out at Left Bank at Santana row--more for the scenery then the great food.
Finally Il Fornio in downtown San Jose is awesome for italian food

My favorite American restaurant in San Jose is definitely the Cheesecake factory! It's great American food with a huge menu, so many selections to choose from...plus it's the BEST dessert in TOWN!

Honestly, I think Pablo's choices were awesome.
I thought I would just add a few more. Maggiano's is my fave Italian food. It's in Santana Row.
Stack's in Campbell is hands down the best place to go for breakfast (American food).
I also like Aqui's in downtown Willow Glen for Mexican food. It is really good and creative in terms of dishes they offer. They are have a slushy machine with really strong frozen margaritas ...so good after a long day at work.
Here's an idea: ever go up to SF for dinner? They have some really interesting restaurants up there. Look up French Cinema.. it's really cool.

Eulipia (374 South First St.) is up-scale American, and is often on various "best restaurant in San Jose" lists.
