geronimo... you did not answer the question. What you said is totally unrelated to my question, for example I never mentioned Iraq.

Zarathustra, you left out the heat wave when they let 35,000 elderly die.
I didn't explain in my question because I believed that everyone could read my mind (a bad habit I have). I was actually refering to Le Monde and French politicians saying that Al-Qaeda doesn't exist. Oops... mon dieu!

The French have been denying the existence of al-Qaeda and now that they have two groups against them they will have to acknowledge both al-Qaeda and their failure in Algiers.
The French won't ask for US assistance until, like Vietnam, they are stuck in an impossible situation and want the US Marines to get them out of another jam. Aside from the French Foreign legion raping their way through Africa, the last successful french military operation was the sinking of Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior back when France was the only "superpower" still testing nuclear weapons. They knew they weapons worked, they just wanted to keep showing the world that they possessed WMDs.
Even though the French fail to live up to their end of defense treaty obligations, they will expect the US and NATO to step in to save them.

Speaking as a Brit...
1. the french are incapable of ever admitting their faults
for example, Rainbow warrior, the nuclear tests in the south pacific, being cheese eating surrender monkeys in the last war etc etc.
2.Now, for all you Americans out there... belief it or not the french and the British both have the BOMB (that's the nuclear one for all you chaps who might not understand plain English). we also both have a fairly big fleet and a good army (well, the french do in terms of size anyway! quality is a very different matter).
.... now to explain, while we Brits will always stand by you chaps over there... because we actually rather like you... the french hold every one in contempt and have no intention of asking help from anyone... because there is no cold war, no soviet union, no massive bogey man hiding in the closet that would make the french scream out for help from the USMC.
sorry to break that to you all :)
3. the recent rioting in Paris and other major cities this year was a direct result of poor local gov. policy regarding immigration and work permits ... that was made worse by a really bad racial problem in the area's with high Algerian and Moroccan populations .
How exactly do we help them even if they do ask for it? we cant fix a country's internal political problems, trust me i know this
from a number of visits to Ulster... and i am sure you chaps remember vietnam
Of course We could just flatten the country and use it as a European car park?
Oh, Tim H? ... the war of the roses was brit vs brit... i think you might be refering to the hundred years war... where it took the french a hundred years to find a woman to hide behind ( J of ark)
Le monde? since when has L.M ever been the source of profound wisdom... just as bad as Goring at nuremberg : "Gas chambers? what gas chambers? and what do you mean by 'shut up you fat Kruat?"

Hard to say. They are thick
The British are following the pinch in relation to recent bombings and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940, when tea supplies all but ran out. Terrorists have been recategorized from "Tiresome" to a "Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire
of 1666.
Also, the French Government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Surrender" and "Collaborate." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.
It's not only the English and French that are on a heightened level of alert. Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."
The Germans also increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose."
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday, as usual, and the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

France-bashing is getting old. The French were very supportive after 9/11 and offered help after Katrina. Yes, they can be arrogant, but so can many Americans.
Also: lots of French support, and money, helped the Revolution. How quickly people forget.
Isn't it sort of funny, as well, that many other countries didn't support the Iraq war and are not reviled as much as the French.
As for when they will ask America for help, probably when America admits Iraq was a bad move.

There is no link between Iraq and Al Qaeda...
Didn't you see Colin Powell's interview?
http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Politics/story?id=1105979&page=1
Al Qaeda striked France in 1995 - Paris subway bombed - but nobody cared about it...
French people knew already what is like to be strike by terrorism and were among the first to join US army in Afghanistan
Some Algerians muslims are eager to get revenge on French people for a long time - there was an independence war in the 1960's
Al Qaeda is criticizing a French Law concerning public school only (not private) - This law forbids visible religious symbols in school - consequently it forbids a muslim tradition concerning the veil

Wrong with what? They fully supported our war agains Al-Qaida (remember the one in Afghanistan that nobody likes to talk about).
They refused to support us in Iraq, which in retrospect turned out to be good idea considering the quagmire it has become.
The French never said they did not want our help under any circumstances. They're just proud and arrogant like many Americans (and a lot more bigoted too).

France colonized Algeria. I'm not surprised the Algerians would hate them. Their war against the French was a war of Independence just like America's was against the British. Nobody likes oppression and France is verging on fascism with some of its laws. Even America is more liberal overall.

Al Queda DOES NOT EQUAL Iraq. Get it through your head!Havent you seen the testimony of Saddams former ministers and the notes they found that speak of Osama in a very negative way?
Just because both Osama and Saddam both have moustaches and dark skin doesnt make them the same. Saddam wasnt a religious fundamentalist. He kept religion out of the government while he was in power, thats why there was peace. Osama is a religious extremist who doesnt like people like Saddam or the Saudi royal family because he thinks theyre not serious enough about being muslims.
France was right to stand against the war in Iraq. (As was the majority of the world who opposed it too) Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, they didnt have WMDs, or anything else the Bush people said they did.
As for the problems with the Algerians, the French havent been too smart in their relationship with Algeria and its people and I suppose theyre gonna get whats been comin to 'em for awhile...Same as everyone else. You live by the sword, you die by the sword.
