One other poster already indicated that The GIMP is a good (and free!) tool for image manipulation (thus its name, the GNU Image Manipulation Program):

http://gimp.org/

There is also a version of The GIMP whose interface attempts to emulate that of Photoshop called, oddly enough, GIMPShop:

http://www.gimpshop.net/

I've used TheGIMP for many years to do similar graphics to what you have posted. Though recognize that there are other tools that can be used in conjunction with an image manipulation program such as Blender (http://www.blender.org/cms/Home.2.0.html) and InkScape (http://www.inkscape.org/) and others.

Hope this helps.

Hi, you could do all the wonderfull stuff with this OpenSource (Free) application called GIMP!

Take a look at this:
http://www.gimp.org/

The screenshots for the program is the following:

You will need to download the win32 binary thus http://www.gimp.org/windows/ explains you need to get the automated installer from Jernej Simoncic, which is included here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=121075

Just download the first one from the list. And download the manual to look at some examples :)

Good Luck

Dell printers and computers come with like adobe paintshop album or something like that. It's probably a free download.

hmm...for first pic, maybe u can use easy software like paintshop..but, for Lara Croft, i think u should purchase Adobe Illustrator/CorelDraw (for drawing) and Adobe Photoshop for touch up and put effects...hey, i think u should surf adobe website...probably they provide free download for 30 days trial.
