I'm interested in working in a crime lab one day , preferbly working with trace evidence. I want to know what exactly should I be majoring in to accomplish this one day? Will I have to go to graduate school? Also what schools have a forensic science major? Are there any?

I go to Eastern Kentucky University and I know that we offer a major in Forensic Science, and it's a relatively inexpensive school. I know it's Kentucky and everything but we have a really good program. You could major in forensic science or chemistry either one. A forensic science major would give you extra classes in crime whereas chemistry would only get you ready for a lab. Criminal Justice major with a Chem minor might help you more also. Just depends on what you want to do. You would most definitely want to go to grad school. The thing is if you start to work in a lab then your employer might help cover your grad school costs. It just depends on where you start.

A few schools offer forensic science as a major, but a lot more schools offer related majors like biochemistry, chemistry, criminology, biology, biotechnology, etc. I dont think you have to go to graduate school, but it does make you look really good if you finish it. (if you decide to go)

I think you should major in one of the related majors. You will have more schools to choose from.

good luck

I don't know of any that offer that degree specifically. You'll want a degree in chemistry, psychology, and/or criminal justice and will most likely need a masters degree. The first thing you should do at a college is talk to an adviser to see what he/she recommends. My friend who is interested in that is a chemistry major with psychology and criminal justice minors and interns with the police department to see how it is really done. It is a popular field, so good luck!
