I don't know who told you you would not have a period for 3 months, but that's not quite accurate. You don't need another injection for three months, and many women have little or no periods while on Depo, but it may take a few months for your hormones to settle down and for periods to level out. It does not normally stop all periods although it is effective for three months,. (There is a birth control pill, Seasonale, that is intended to create only one period every three months, if this is what you really want.)

Heavy bleeding is in fact an occasional side effect of using Depo Provera and you should have been told this risk and told to report it to your doctor. Woman vary, and some will have little or no period while others have heavier periods than before starting the drug.

Call your doctor for directions on what if anything you should do. Any time you have an unexpected symptom on any medication, a call to the person who prescribed it should be your first action, unless it's life threatening (like an anaphylactic allergic reaction) in which case call 911.

When you speak to your doctor, you should also ask for a clearer explanation of how Depo works and what to expect and what to report.

If you are new to the Depo Provera injections, it may take a cycle or two before your period stops. You can still have your period if you're on the injections too. I don't think you would be pregnant, but if you are really uncertain and want to make sure, then go to your doctor. It's best to address concerns about these situations with your doctor anyway. Good luck!
